Welcome to
Brook's Scroll

If you're historical fiction aficionados, travelers, dreamers, or adventurers, you'll want to take a look. People in the ancient world communicated in a surprising plethora of ways. Scrolls were only one format, and in Marcus Antonius's Rome would have been used specifically by the aristocracy or learned individuals, like scribes, who might even be well-educated slaves. Sometimes scrolls were used for correspondence, especially in arid, hot areas like Egypt or Syria. Other uses were for public records or to record official documents. Though often made of papyrus, scrolls were sometimes made of vellum--leather--which would last longer in humid regions.

Brook hopes you'll make yourself at home and read through her scrolls to learn more about her work as an author, her research, travels, thoughts, and adventures!"

Websites & Twitter & Facebook, Oh MY!

This has been such an incredible week--announcing my website and seeing my readership begin to grow. 2019 has (so far) been a year of growth for me technologically-speaking. Not exactly computer-illiterate, I've never been computer-savvy, either. Learning how to set up my own Brook Allen site on Facebook, and then entering the world of Twitter was a real adventure. I'm so thankful for all of you people already reading my blogs, taking an interest in what I'm doing, and tweeting. Please do continue!

I need to praise my web-page designer, the enterprising Michelle Gill (
www.maceyhollow.com). She's been my web-page coach, teaching and admonishing me over what is needed to have a successful author site. Now I'm blogging like a BOSS and it feels fantastic! Soon I'll be handling the changes and updates of my site on my own, with her diligent guidance and patience.

Having a specific place to write is so very important to me. Below is a picture of where it all happens. This is my happy place at home, where I can enjoy social media, tweet, commune with Facebook buds, and most importantly, imagine and scribe the Antonius stories that you'll all be reading. I love this little spot with a passion, and even though the desk is small, it reminds me of my Dad, to whom it once belonged.

Please watch out for my weekly updates, and if you've not yet subscribed to my website, I invite you to do so. My hope is that you'll find it as inviting as I do!
